Lakin Hanna presents: Parental Substance Abuse–Our Response as Educators
This session will dive head first into the ever-growing opioid epidemic which is causing a
nationwide ripple throughout our communities. As educators, how do we support these students
with specific needs and work with families to ensure children are receiving academic and
emotional support at home? It’s not an easy task, but is a necessary one for all educators in the
classrooms of today and tomorrow.

Lakin Hanna is a rising undergraduate senior at Francis Marion University. She lives in Lancaster, South Carolina and comes from a small family. While at Francis Marion, she has been awarded a South Carolina Teaching Fellowship. Lakin plans to graduate from Francis Marion University with a B.S in Secondary History Education while also graduating with University Honors. She plans to live in Florence, South Carolina following graduation and teach in a public high school. Lakin is a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Darlington, South Carolina where she and her significant other are highly involved.
