Karen Utter presents: Engaging All Families When the Building is Closed

The school closures resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic have further revealed the importance of school-family partnerships to student learning and development, even as social distancing requirements have made it more challenging to create and maintain these relationships. This session will examine some of the innovative ways that teachers have risen to the challenge and how those practices align with the South Carolina K-12 Family Engagement Framework issued by the SC Department of Education in March 2019.

Karen Utter, J.D., is Associate Director of the South Carolina School Improvement Council housed in the Center for Educational Partnerships in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina. She serves as the Director of the Carolina Family Engagement Center, a five-year, nearly $5 million grant project funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
